Maria Koinova

Dr. Maria Koinova is a Reader (Senior Associate Professor) in International Relations at the University of Warwick in the UK, and a research fellow at the Kroc Center for International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame (spring 2018). She is also a board member of the BEAR network with a task to organize a policy conference in Brussels in 2020. Koinova has recently completed a large-scale European Research Council Starting Grant Project “Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty” (2012-2017, www.diasporacontest.org). She holds a Ph.D. from the European University Institute, and has previously held research fellowships at Harvard, Cornell, Dartmouth, Woodrow Wilson International Center on Scholars in Washington D.C., Uppsala University, and at the Dutch Institute for Advanced Studies. She is the author of “Ethnonationalist Conflict in Postcommunist States,” University of Pennsylvania Press, 2013, reviewed in Foreign Affairs, Choice, Perspectives on Politics, Journal of Peace Research, among ten other academic journals. Her articles or edited special issues on diasporas, conflicts and post-conflict reconstruction have been published in the European Journal of International Relations, International Studies Review, Review of International Studies, International Political Sociology, International Political Science Review, Foreign Policy Analysis, Global Networks, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, and Ethnic and Racial Studies, Communist and Postcommunist Studies, and others.
